1951
Our company was founded in 1951 by Norman Bristley and William Hanley in a small office on the North-side of Indianapolis. We specialized in providing builders hardware and other building specialities to contractors of residential, commercial, industrial and institutional projects.
1969
Our company continued to grow with its customer focused value-added sales approach. As a result in 1969 we opened an additional location in Fort Wayne, IN.
2001
In our ever growing efforts to serve the needs of our customers, we expanded our products and services offering by acquiring the Schricker Co. Inc. (SCI). This allowed us to start distribution and installation of bathroom partitions and accessories.
2003
Our commitment to serve our customers well and our continued growth led us to move our facility in to a newer and larger facility (130,000 square feet) in Indianapolis, IN where we reside today.
2015
Continuing our commitment to provide our customers with what they need when they need it we expanded further our operations. We acquired the Space Management Division. This enabled us to serve the Division 10 needs of our customers even further.
2016
In our desire to provide our customers with quality and dependable Division 10 installations we acquired Allen Kretler. This is saving our customers time and hassle by providing them a one-stop solution.
2020
We became a partial ESOP in 1986 when our founders, Norman E. Bristley and William Hanley, established the ESOP as a method to transition the company from their leadership to the leadership of Norman L. Bristley. To fulfill our commitment of rewarding years of dedication and hard work, CIH became a 100% ESOP on January 3, 2020.
2020
We welcomed Security Door & Hardware and Security Builders Supply to the CIH family. As a company focused on delivering exceptional customer service through innovative programs, we supported the SDH & SBS teams with resources to expand opportunities and accelerate growth in their market.
2021
CIH and H&G/Schultz Door, 100% employee-owned distributors of commercial doors, door frames, and architectural hardware, formed APTURA Group, Inc. (“APTURA”), an employee-owned holding company. The holding company was formed to align operating assets in the respective markets, increase operational flexibility, and grow product and service offerings in the expanded geographical areas.
