About Al-Huda Project

Al-Huda

The Al-Huda Masjid is a structural representation in honor of the beliefs of the followers of the Muslim faith in the State of Indiana. The masjid was remodeled recently to modernize its community center and capture the beauty of Islamic architecture. This architectural marvel comprises unique doors with custom gold and brass door inlays, custom gold and bronze hardware finish, and no gap partitions designed for maximum privacy in all layouts with gold handlebars. To say that the work done at Al-Huda was a one-of-a-kind is not a stretch.

Project Overview:

The Al-Huda project was the result of many hours of collaboration between CIH, the General Contractor, and the Al-Huda staff. Due to the uniqueness of this project, CIH took the lion’s share of the design-build process and offered full A to Z service. Our contributions included spec writing and providing custom doors, frames, and hardware, including toilet partitions and accessories. We also installed all the products we supplied. The project was not without its challenges; however, the overall majesty of the building was well worth the effort that was put forth by all involved.

To give more of a sense of what goes into a project such as this, we have asked our team to provide us with some thoughts on their experience during the process:

Thoughts from some of the CIH team involved:

Ruth Davis

Developer Sales Manager
This project was challenging due to high and unique expectations. We were able to find solutions that they liked and would work during bidding. Many changes happened as the project progressed, but we were able to accommodate their needs as much as possible. Even though the job needed the proper specs and plans aligned with customer material desires when it was awarded to us, we were still able to consult, guide, and execute the customer’s vision. Overall, our sales team is happy with the project, and the beauty of the building is incredible, as well as the materials CIH supplied.

Austin Bammann

Project Manager
It was my first project with field installation and was a learning experience for myself and the service techs/management. Generally, we proceed with a project based on detailed drawings and specs. The Al-Huda project was like a CIH-designed project which was new to me. We had to help them decide what they wanted. Ultimately, the doors turned out very nice with the custom brass inlays.

Ryan Miller

Project Manager Div 10
It was a fascinating learning experience, and the work scope was inspiring. The custom finishes on materials were unlike anything I had worked on before. Working with vendors on custom finished materials, maintaining extended due dates due to custom materials, and new installation complexities were challenging. For example, the all-marble walls created challenges on installation when drilling, while uniquely shaped installation areas made custom layouts difficult to create and maintain ADA compliance. That being said, the beautiful architectural design of the facility and seeing the imported handmade materials added to the building at the end were one of the most beautiful designs I’ve ever worked on. I had an interesting incident when walking through the building to wrap up loose ends on the project and being utterly naïve about cultural differences. I quickly noticed upon entry that nobody had shoes on inside the building, prompting me to take my boots off while walking the site quickly.

Greg Nix

Installation Supervisor
In every project, coordination is vital. Especially in a complex project like this. Trying to move frames and shim doors after the finish was complete and not damage anything was a big undertaking. We had set the gym door frame, and when the tilers tiled the wall, somehow, they twisted the frame on the RH door, so the tile followed the frame. We needed to reset the frame correctly, but the finished materials would no longer allow us to shim and adjust. We had to cut down the hinge side of the doors and install continuous hinges to get a proper gap between the doors. We spent countless hours with several people trying to make those doors work. The continuous hinges were finally the fix on that opening.
