About Brownsburg Public Library

Brownsburg Public Library on Jefferson street is the cornerstone of the community, being one mile from the local high school. The original building was erected in 1981 to serve the public with a dynamic, highly valued material collection that is easily accessible. The building underwent an expansion in 1999 where a Modernfold manual operable wall was installed in the new children’s wing. Over time, the library staff wanted to enhance the usability of the wall, so the manual wall was upgraded to an electric Acousti-Seal wall during the most recent renovation. The children’s area is focused on early literacy and school readiness so being able to reconfigure the space efficiently was of utmost importance.
These repeat customers serve their community by offering their patrons internet access, materials, and comfortable, quiet space. They understand the need for the facility to have flexible and varied size spaces. “We want to be the community’s center; to offer the physical and virtual space for our community by creating a welcoming and productive physical space that is flexible to meeting the needs of each community member,” said Denise Robinson, Library Director. “We want the library to be a relevant and essential resource within the community”, she said. The library also utilizes a Modernfold accordion wall to divide space between two meeting rooms giving the option for a capacity of 25 or 50. This electric accordion wall provides gathering spaces as a service offered to local businesses and organizations as well as a way to create opportunities for informal community engagement.

Project Overview:
The Modernfold Acousti-Seal 933E continuously hinged panels are connected in a train, extending as one complete unit by keyed switches. The straight-line opening with total automatic electric operation allows for quick separation, which is convenient for the library staff. The Modernfold electric partition was designed for simultaneous activation by two keyed switches to prevent unauthorized movement and an integrated safety system to ensure safe operation. This wall has an STC 45 which means that loud sounds on one side of the wall are heard but not audible on the other side. This acoustical performance was an essential factor in the selection of the Modernfold electric wall.
A variety of options and accessories were chosen, from the matching construction pass door to the Pedigree colored vinyl wall covering. The track used for this electric wall is the Modernfold #30 In-Line track, which was designed for quiet and dependable operation. It is made of strong structural aluminum and is designed to mate with the Acousti-Seal electric partition which aids in the acoustical capabilities.
