School Safety Concerns
Top 3 School Safety Concerns
School safety and security still remains at the forefront of conversations in America, and rightly so. But is enough being done to make students safe?
According to a recent report published by Michelle Gay, co-founder of Safe and Sound Schools, the top 3 School safety and security concerns by parents, students, educators, and the community are
- Active Shooter
- Bullying
- Mental Health Emergencies
Educators, safety officials, and community members cited mental health emergencies as their top concern. However, parents and students were most worried about active shooters, putting them atop the list.
That may be why parents prioritized security measures when discussing ways to budget future spending. Educators placed it at #3 on their list, behind mental health experts (#1) and social and emotional learning (#2).
Most soberingly, it’s students who seem to be bearing the weight of that daily concerns. When asked if they feel like their school has a false sense of security, the majority of students said yes. Only 44 percent of educators said the same, nearly tied with those who were unsure.
