Pacers Sports and Entertainment partnered with Cunningham Restaurant Group to operate a new entertainment and restaurant venue at Bicentennial Unity Plaza in downtown Indianapolis. The new site is called Commission Row, named after the stretch of nearby Delaware Street, where traveling 19th-century farmers sold goods to merchants. It is a 30,000-square-foot space featuring a basement speakeasy and a restaurant on the main level, and the upper level boasts a private event area to accommodate more than 200 attendees.
Project Overview:
CIH Space Management Division worked with Ratio Architectural firm and Space Management Installations to furnish a premium Skyfold product in the area, aptly named ‘Above,’ inside the Commission Row. This flexible space features a 42’ long Skyfold Classic 55 vertically retracting wall, finished in Carnegie Xorel 6269-13 Spire with black seals.
The system is fully automated and can be operated with the push of a button. A motor is activated that raises or lowers the wall panels, allowing the staff to reconfigure the space quickly. This is particularly useful since the room layout needs to be adjusted frequently to accommodate the different types of events Commission Row hosts. According to Commission Row’s Event Sales Manager, the entire staff is mesmerized by the Skyfold wall and gathers around to watch it move whenever the space is reconfigured!
Larger events that require more room capacity can occur without the footprint of the stored panels when the wall is not in use. The Skyfold wall retracts and stores neatly in the ceiling plenum space. With the Skyfold wall down, the large room can be divided into smaller spaces for more solitude. The designers decided to install custom wood-grain ceiling panels in the storage pocket, making the look seamless.
The Product
Skyfold Classic 55 is a premium-grade retractable wall with an STC of 55. Attendees on one side of the wall will be unable to hear normal conversations by attendees on the other side. This proper sound control ensures that noise pollution is minimized and acoustics are optimized for different activities. Sound control was a desired feature that the creators of this space, Ratio, wanted for the privacy and comfort of the guests of Commission Row.
